I am pleased to invite you to the Global Value Chains Conference to be hosted by Industry Canada on September 25-26, 2007. This by-invitation Conference is expected to involve some 275 participants, including senior economic policy authorities from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) member countries, policy analysts from the Federal Government, as well as representatives from businesses, think tanks, and academia.
The purpose of this Conference is to further our understanding of the implications of global value chains on industries and the economy, as well as clarify the role of governments in facilitating competitiveness in a globally linked value chain world.
This forum will be used to discuss policy options to stimulate firm’s participation in global value chains. In particular, the introductory and final sessions of the Conference will be devoted to the policy relevance of global value chains issues and the role of government in this new global context. This event will also serve as a platform for representatives to present findings, initiatives underway, ideas and views on global value chains and related public policy issues.
Attached is a draft agenda for the Conference, which will take place at the Ottawa Congress Centre, 55 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, Canada. A Guest Registration Form is also attached. While there is no registration cost to attend the conference, you must RSVP by returning the Guest Registration Form by email at cvm-gvc@ic.gc.ca by August 25, 2007.
