Giving Mark Steyn His Due
CBC recently reported that Conrad Black was acquitted on most of the charges against him because a lone juror dug up critical evidence that his own lawyers did not present. This revelation seems to support Mark Steyn’s criticism of these lawyers.
Well, this raises plenty of questions too: why was a jurist so determined to “dig up” evidence that the defence did not deem appropriate to provide, what exactly was it, is this an appropriate role for a jurist – what if, for example, she were equally as convinced he was guilty, despite the prosecution not leading sufficient evidence, and she went digging into the footnotes for something.
No doubt, though, the lawyers cocked up a good amount.
