Northern Saskatchewan Ablaze with Controversy
As discussed here three weeks ago, Dion appointed Joan Beatty as the Liberal by-election candidate in Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River just over a week ago. Since then, Ralph Goodale has tried to make much of the fact that other prospective candidates should have been aware of this possibility and opponents of the appointment have organized feverishly.
Closest thing I see to a Native issues thread.
To train Native’s on-reserve to first renovate and build housing, teach daycare, and be nurses (to at first address these issues on reserve and then spillover a surplus workforce to solve these issues for the rest of Canada), you’d need to know how much community college and nursing college capacity could immediately be enrolled. Need to know if other investments (elementary school) need to be made. Need to know if anything is causing on reserve housing stock to be degraded prematurely (by moulds, etc), such as ownership structures (I saw A.Coyne comment on this on CBC; IDK if communal housing ownership is necessarily bad or not, and if so, if the issue of maintaining housing stock can be achieved under such a home ownership policy) or remote location, etc.
Educating a young workforce takes time but I think this initial “initial enrollment minimum” accounting could be done right away, is the bottleneck. That is, if GST cuts haven’t robbed the whole public purse (still gotta pay down debt)…
