Cleaning up cruise ships
The Harper government enacts yet another policy from the CCPA. Ross Klein, social work professor turned cruise industry watcher at Memorial University deserves a big round of applause for his efforts to shine a light on this problem.
A cynic might comment that this is just an easy reform that beefs up Harper’s green credentials prior to the next election. Perhaps this is true, but it is still the right thing to do; the Liberals sat on their hands for years as the cruise industry used Canadian waters as its toilet.
Tougher sewage rules for cruise ships

Ottawa will introduce tough new penalties next month for cruise ships that illegally dump raw sewage into the sea.
OTTAWA — The federal government, which has declared itself “extremely sensitive” to the pollution risks posed by the fast-growing cruise ship industry, will bring into force next month regulations that could lead to jail sentences and fines of up to $1 million for violators that illegally dump raw sewage close to land.
Well learning about politics and cynicism I would say its not the action or implementation most Canadians care about its where the impetus came from. So what ever action the Tories implement can never be good because they never used Kyoto as the driving reason. Conversely the Liberals can only do good because although they never actually accomplish anything, but at least they believe Kyoto is something that we should strive for.
